Redefining You

This is a new year.

It’s the beginning of another decade.

We all have our new year’s resolutions.

Some of us have it penned down in our diaries while some of us have it inscribed in our hearts.

Furthermore, coupled with new year resolutions, we have our dreams, aspirations as well as plans.

Well, it all boils down to doing things differently.

You can’t expect to do things the same way and expect different results.

To be able to ascertain what things we need to do differently to achieve our goals, we need to do to the review and refine process.

The review process involves the act of reflecting on your previous acts and actions and identifying things that worked out well and those areas that didn’t work.

On the other hand, the refine process has to do with coming up with new strategies to achieve better results than the previous times.

The previous years might have been rough.

You might have procrastinated a lot.

Hence, you couldn’t achieve most of your dreams.

You must have made many wrong decisions.

Even more, you might have lacked self confidence.

With each new year that comes, your resolutions are focused on dealing with some if not all of these shortcomings.

However, you find yourself with each year that passes by still repeatedly having the same experience as before.

Well, this year’s journey should be different and better.

I for one am on a journey of self development.

With that in mind here are some things to look out for while on this new year’s journey.

Things To Look Out For

Procrastination

There’s a common saying that procrastination is a thief of time.

It prevents you from doing things at the appropriate time.

This has killed many dreams and prevented people from reaching their goals.

This is a bad habit that we tend to contend with but hardly ever defeat.

Hence, as we begin this new decade, let’s make conscious effort to overcome this enemy.

There are lots of ways to deal with the habit of delaying tasks (Procrastination).

Although, it might not be easy, but with constant practice you’ll find yourself gradually overcoming this habit.

How to deal with procrastination

To deal with the habit of procrastination, develop the habit of having an everyday to-do list.

As odd as this might sound, having a to-do list helps you keep things in perspective.

Also, it’ll help you also keep track of the things you need to do.

Even more, getting to tick things off your to-do list gives you a feeling of accomplishment.

This will serve as a source of motivation to stay committed to fulfilling other major tasks.

However, don’t be hard on yourself if at first you find it difficult to complete all the items on your to-do list.

Forgive yourself, move on and strive to do better.

Apart, from using a to-do list, ensure to set target or goals that are realistic and actually achievable.

Having unrealistic goals can be very discouraging and this in turn make you uninterested in pursuing your goals entirely.

Self Discipline

This is yet another factor that can prevent you from achieving your set goals.

When you lack self discipline, you’ll never learn to focus on your goals.

Also, you’ll be easily distracted.

This will result in you making plans that you’ll be unable to focus on achieving.

The good news is that you can build up your habit of self discipline.

How to develop self discipline

Firstly, it all starts with a choice.

Choose to exercise discipline in all your endeavors.

There are times we just don’t feel like doings things.

This is where self discipline come to play.

Self discipline make you do the necessary things even if you don’t feel like it.

Furthermore, you can also develop self discipline by reading books on self discipline or learning from your mentors or role models.

One other thing to look out for is your resilient mindset.

Resilient Mindset

Having a resilient mindset is similar to having a never give up mindset.

Resilience make you stay optimistic despite how many times you might have failed.

Resilience is what keeps you striving hard year after year despite all odds.

This can be considered as one of the vital keys to success.

How to develop resilience

Firstly always have an optimistic mindset.

See your failures as an opportunity to learn.

Also, welcome challenges with an open heart.

See challenges as an opportunity to become better.

Furthermore you can develop a resilient mindset by surrounding yourself with people who motivate and encourage you.

Even more you can build up your resilient mindset through books and other forms of educational media.

As a business owner, a leader, an employee or a regular individual, each year comes with rare opportunities to achieve more than you did the previous years.

Hence, it is very important that you to strategically prepare yourself for the year’s journey.

You need to review and redefine certain aspects of yourself if you aim to achieve better.

Nothing remains the same forever.

Change is something that is constant.

Hence, don’t get too used to the statusque.

Our Choices

The ability to make choices is what makes us humans.

Unlike robots that are mechanically controlled, we have the ability to make choices that guide our actions and reactions.

These choices are also backed up by decisions.

We make choices on who to marry, friends to keep, school to attend, items to buy and many more.

The ability to make choices can be considered a rare gift to humanity.

This is because with this gift we can influence the journey of our lives.

However, more often than not we tend to be skeptical when it comes to making choices.

This may be due to what is famously know as the fear of the unknown.

Most times, when making choices concerning our lives we are consumed with the thoughts of what ifs and buts.

Life itself is all about risks.

The fact that you refuse to make that choice itself is a risk.

This is because you’ll never know what you may gain or stand to loose if you don’t make that choice.

Most great people today are people who were bold enough to take risks.

For example Bill Gates took the risk of choosing his dreams of building a flourishing business empire over being confined to the four walls of an educational environment (school).

And guess what?

That choice paid off in the end!

Our lives are dependent on the choices we make.

This is the beginning of a new decade.

So I decided to give my site the title of Glowrites Creative Haven.

This name came about as a result of the fact I intend for my blog to be one that would deliver creative content covering various fields of interests ranging from self development to finances among others.

Furthermore , my sites’ tagline goes thus: Solving problems and making life easier through creative writing.

This was inspired by my desire to be able to provide help in solving peculiar problems of my prospects through creative writing.

Entrepreneur are known to be problem solvers. It is my dream to be a successful problem solver.

Resilience

Have you taken time to reflect on the true meaning of Resilience?

Most times in our personal lives, work and business we just feel like throwing in the towel.

We often feel that quitting is the best option after we face failure or setback.

Resilience is a trait many people talk about but rarely possess.

Resilience is what I like to define as the ability to move on from a difficult situation or a challenge courageously.

Yeah! I just said the word courageously.

This is because resilience takes a lot of courage.

One of America’s greatest inventors Thomas Edison once said ” I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work “

It takes courage to stare failure in the face and say I refuse to acknowledge you as failure.

In a nutshell that’s what resilience is all about – the ability to refuse failure.

Well you might be wondering what special qualities do resilient people possess.

Resilient people are people who treat every difficult situation as a challenge.

Further more, resilient people possess die-hard commitment to achieving their goals.

Resilient people also are highly optimistic.

Resilience is highly important in our daily lives .

This is because we can rarely achieve anything great without being resilient.

In order to develop resilience,we need to first acknowledge its importance in our lives.

Also, we need to consciously work or make efforts to develop a resilient mind set.

Thirdly, we could read self- development books on resilience.

Furthermore, we could develop a resilient attitude by keeping people around us that motivate and inspire us when we face difficult times.

Most importantly, we should be optimistic about life.

We should believe in our ability to conquer all challenges.

Also, never be afraid to fail.

Robert F. Kennedy says ” only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly”.

This is very true because, the fear of failing limits you and prevents you from trying new things or taking advantage of new opportunities.

Conclusively, you can’t develop resilience in a day.

It takes time and your conscious efforts to develop it.

Hence, don’t be discouraged when you find yourself giving up on that difficult situation.

All you need to do is to always remember that such difficult situations can be overcomed

With time resilience will become a habit for you.

As this month comes to an end be determined to start a new month afresh with a resilient mind set.

And remember it takes courage,commitment and discipline to be truly resilience.

Well, am just a seeking out a path to greatness. Oftentimes I do get confused about what I want or what my likes and dislikes are but if there’s one thing am sure of is that I love writing and am ready to achieve great things doing what I love.
